General info
Let us guide you through the city of Heraklion, the Venetian “Regnio di Candia” and as we walk through, we will stop and taste the local delicacies. We will visit the places that we would visit with our families, so don’t expect tourist traps, instead experience and taste the real Crete.
Starting point / meeting point: The tour participants will meet their guide and food expert opposite the main entrance of the archeological museum of Heraklion, next to the statue of Xanthoudidis. The licensed guide- food expert will be there, holding a sign of our company “Tour Experts” and the title of the tour “Heraklion city and Food Tour”.
Starting time: 13.00 Monday to Friday from 1st of November to 31st of March – If a date is not available – contact us to check the available options . We advise you to be at the meeting point 12. 45 as the tour will start at 13.00. If a participant is not at the meeting point ( opposite the museum entrance) , then its considered a non show .
The route: The route that heightens all of your senses. We shall see all the highlights and the monuments of Venetian and Medieval Heraklion, its landmarks, the Lion fountain, Loggia, St. Titus cathedral. We shall taste the Cretan products that comprise the famous Cretan cuisine. We shall touch and smell the herbs and spices of Cretan soil and we shall hear the sounds of the bustling city of Heraklion. A day, a tour that is generous to the eyes, enticing for the palette and gentle to the touch.

The tour is not provided by just a food expert ( which usually means an unqualified person to conduct guided tours ) , but a qualified licensed guide who can explain the historical background of Heraklion and the influence of the occupants in the Cretan cuisine .

The tour is provided by an experienced professional licensed guide and we will provide information about the history of Heraklion and the public buildings of the city center, where we will have access.
What to expect:
- Greek coffee or mountain tea
- Cretan pies with spinach and local herbs

- Local spices and herbs
- Local cheese of Crete (graviera and anthotyros)
- Cretan Rusk – Ntakos and olives
- Olive oil
- Cretan pastries (kserotigano and kalitsounia)
- Kalamaki souvlaki (pork or chicken on the grill)
- Local wine and Raki ( distilled local drink made from grapes )
Drinks that you wish to order during the stops are extra and you can pay them directly to the venues – restaurants or shops during your visit.
All participants will get a taste of the products during the walking tour.
All the above products/coffees/pies etc are included in the total cost. ( if you feel that its too much you can take them in a small bag for later )

Pricing: 120 euro per person, all taxes and VAT 24% included. (240 euro per couple) – maximum participants 8 ( due to the difficulty of space in some of the venues – shops ), cost of extra participant 120 euro

No entrance fees: During the tour we will not visit sites with an entrance fee.
Who organizes the tour : The team of Experts – the company Guides of Greece Sustainable Tourism Development – Tailor Made Travel Services E.E – a travel agency by licensed certified guides .
Duration 2h 15 minutes
Transportation is not included. Tour participants will meet the guide at the designated meeting point 10 to 15 min prior to the tour. A short orientation (details of the tour, questions etc) and we will start our tour. If you need transportation arrangements ( pick up from your hotel , kindly let us know , in order to provide details and the cost)

Walking difficulty: easy, through pedestrian streets (expect some steps) – use flat shoes for walking – some slippery areas with marble tiles walk slowly during winter time .

The exact route can be altered (due to traffic difficulties, or to avoid the crowds) but all the main highlights will be included in our walking tour.
